Pakistan is well known for young talented youth, yet many are unable to realize their full potential due to a lack of resources, financial hindrance especially when it comes to higher education. To address this issue, the Government of Pakistan, through the Higher Education Commission (HEC), has launched the HEC Need Based Scholarship for Undergraduate Students. So, the initial purpose is to support financially disadvantaged students across 100 public sector universities, helping them to have access of higher education and secure a brighter future as well as work for the progress of country.

Purposes of HEC Need Based Scholarship:
The HEC Need-Based Scholarship for undergraduate students look around for:

Eligibility Criteria of HEC Need Based Scholarship:
- The Need Based Scholarship for Undergraduate students covers programs of 4-5 years across all disciplines at selected universities in Pakistan.
- Admission Requirement: Students must secure admission to a participating university as per its admission policy. This scholarship is also open to students already enrolled in these institutions.
- Financial Need: The HEC Need Based Scholarship is awarded based on the applicant’s financial background, as assessed by the Institutional Scholarship Award Committee (ISAC).
- Program Duration: Funding will be provided for the entire duration of the program. If a student drops out, the slot will be filled by a candidate from the waiting list.
- Number of Slots: Universities will decide the number of slots based on their budget for the current year.
- Exclusions: Students admitted on a self-finance basis are not eligible for the HEC Need Based Scholarship for bachelor’s students.
Scholarship Benefits:
The HEC Need-Based Scholarship offers:
- Full University Fee Coverage: The scholarship covers all university fees for selected students.
- Monthly Stipend: Recipients will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 6000 throughout the duration of their undergraduate program, including those in Medicine, Pharm-D, and other five-year programs.
Scholarship Award Process:
- Application Review: Every Institutional Scholarship Award Committee (ISAC), led by the Vice Chancellor and including external members, reviews applications to ensure transparency.
- Selection: After reviewing, the ISAC forwards its recommendations to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for approval.
- Fund Disbursement: Once the awardees are finalized, the participating universities will disburse funds to the selected students of HEC Need Based Scholarship.
Application Process:
- Obtain the Form: Interested students can obtain the HEC Need Based Scholarship application form from the Financial Aid Office (FAO) at their university or download it online. You can download form here:
- Submit the Form: Completed applications, along with supporting documents, must be submitted to the FAO at the participating university. HEC does not accept applications directly.
- Admission Requirement: Students must secure admission in any approved discipline at participating universities. Current students can also apply.
Financial Support Coverage:
The Need Based Scholarship for bachelor’s students covers:
- University Fee: Full tuition fee for the complete duration of the program.
- Stipend: Rs. 6000 per month for the duration of the degree program.
Important Notes:
- Students admitted through self-finance are not eligible for the HEC Need-Based Scholarship.
- Applications should be submitted to the university’s Financial Aid Office, not directly to HEC.
